Today is the fiftieth anniversary of the first James Bond film.

"Dr. No" opened in theaters on Oct. 5, 1962, introducing Ian Fleming's suave 007 British superspy to the world.

The series is one of the longest running in history, booking $4.9 billion in ticket sales through 22 films. Six Bond actors later, the 23rd Bond movie, "Skyfall," is set to be released U.S. theaters on Nov. 9.
