German companies put kibosh on social networking

A growing number of German companies are banning their employees from using social networks while at the office amid concerns that the sites could allow malicious software to spread onto corporate IT systems. Some of Germany's biggest brands -- including Commerzbank, Porsche and Volkswagen -- have limited or blocked access to sites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. "Before it was e-mail that was the favorite gateway for damaging software -- today it is social networks," said one antivirus specialist.
