More retailers eye holiday-savings plans

Just two years after Wal-mart abandoned its extensive layaway program, Sears out-maneuvered its discount rival by becoming the first major retailer with a revived holiday-savings club last year.  This year, the retailer launched its holiday savings debit card a month earlier and was joined by a similar program at Toys R Us. More retailers may consider adding plans of their own, once they see whether their competitors' efforts pay off, according to the Arizona Republic.
